Saudi Arabia’s SWPC names Alkhorayef as preferred bidder for Jazan sewage plants project

The scheme involves 12 plants producing 74,700 m³ daily and 166 km of supporting collection networks

The Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) has named Alkhorayef Water and Power Technologies as the preferred bidder for a project to build and operate small sewage treatment plants in the Jazan region.

The scheme covers the development of 12 plants with a combined capacity of about 74,700 cubic metres a day, along with 166 kilometres of collection networks.

It will be delivered under a 25-year Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model, with commercial operations expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2028.

The Jazan project is the first in the Kingdom to combine sewage treatment plants and collection networks under a single framework with private-sector involvement. SWPC said the initiative would maximise reuse of treated wastewater, cut untreated sewage discharge, and improve services in towns and villages across the region.

At least 60% of content during the construction phase will be sourced locally, in line with Saudi efforts to boost domestic participation in major infrastructure projects.

The project forms part of the government’s National Water Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030 plan, which aim to enhance water efficiency, protect the environment and expand public-private partnerships in essential services.
