India’s VA Tech Wabag wins $13.6 mn Bahrain sewage plant contract extension

The deal extends VA Tech Wabag’s role at the 40 million-litre-per-day facility

India’s VA Tech Wabag has secured a five-year, 5.12 million Bahraini dinar ($13.6 million) contract to continue operating and maintaining the Madinat Salman sewage treatment plant in Bahrain, the company has said.

The deal, awarded by the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning in Bahrain, extends Wabag’s role at the 40 million-litre-per-day facility, which it designed and built under an earlier engineering, procurement and construction contract completed in 2018.

The plant supplies treated water for irrigation across 13 islands and produces commercial-grade sludge for reuse.

“This order strengthens our O&M portfolio, providing annuity income, improved cash flows and revenue predictability,” said Srinivasan K, Wabag’s general manager for the Middle East and North Africa.

The Chennai-headquartered group, one of the largest pure-play water technology firms, has been running the site since its commissioning in 2018.
