China’s Sinoma Overseas Development Co. has been awarded a contract worth $8.7 million to develop a 20-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant for Northern Region Cement Company (NRCC) in Turaif, northwestern Saudi Arabia, the Saudi-listed cement producer has revealed.
Under the deal, Sinoma will deliver the project on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) basis. The Chinese firm will be responsible for the full scope of works, including design, supply, civil construction, installation, and commissioning of the plant, NRCC said in a statement.
The facility, once complete, is expected to provide renewable power for NRCC’s cement operations, supporting the company’s plans to reduce its carbon footprint and cut energy costs amid Saudi Arabia’s push for industrial decarbonisation.
Sinoma, a subsidiary of China National Building Material Group, has extensive experience delivering cement and renewable energy projects across the Middle East and Africa.
The project also includes on-site infrastructure, administrative buildings, and security facilities, according to NRCC. No completion timeline was disclosed.
