Infinity Power and Pele Green Energy Secure 1.28 GW Solar Projects in South Africa’s REIPPPP Round 7

The awarded projects, located across Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and the North West Province, will bolster South Africa’s renewable energy capacity.

Infinity Power, in partnership with Pele Green Energy, has been awarded six solar projects totaling 1.28 gigawatts (GW) of capacity in South Africa’s seventh round of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).

The projects represent 71% of the total solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity allocated in this round.

The awarded projects, located across Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and the North West Province, will bolster South Africa’s renewable energy capacity.

Among the largest are the 240MW Highveld Solar in Mpumalanga and the 240MW Palladium Solar 1 in Limpopo. Once operational, these projects will collectively avoid approximately 3.2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually and create 6,500 direct and indirect jobs during construction and operation.

Infinity Power, a joint venture between Egypt’s Infinity and Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), is already operating 624MW of wind power in South Africa, and aims to reach 10GW of renewable capacity across Africa by 2030.

“South Africa is pivotal to our goal of lighting up the continent with clean energy. These projects reinforce our commitment to powering a sustainable future,” said Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Chairman of Infinity Power.

Under the REIPPPP, Infinity Power and Pele Green Energy will sign implementation and power purchase agreements with South Africa’s Department of Mineral Resources and Energy and Eskom within the next eight months. Development and construction are expected to begin shortly thereafter.

Pele Green Energy CEO Gqi Raoleka highlighted the partnership’s broader impact: “Together, we’re delivering reliable clean energy while uplifting communities through job creation and skills development, advancing renewable solutions for South Africa and beyond.”

Infinity Power and Pele Green Energy are not only focused on delivering clean energy but also on community development.

Infinity Power has invested over $3 million in local socio-economic initiatives across its operations in South Africa, Senegal, and Egypt, a commitment it plans to deepen as these projects progress.
