SEPCO3 and Marubeni sign EPC deal for 700MW Yanbu wind project in Saudi Arabia

The wind farm, located in Madinah Province, is part of Round 4 of the Kingdom’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP)

China’s Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation No. 3 (SEPCO3), a subsidiary of China Electric Power Construction Corporation, has signed an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with Japan’s Marubeni Corporation for the 700-megawatt Yanbu Wind Power Project in Saudi Arabia.

The wind farm, located in Madinah Province, is part of Round 4 of the Kingdom’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), which is supervised by the Ministry of Energy.

The program is a core pillar of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to generate half of the country’s electricity from renewable sources by the end of the decade.

SEPCO3 described the agreement as a major milestone in its efforts to expand its renewable energy footprint in the Saudi market.

The Yanbu project marks the company’s third large-scale wind contract in the country, following the 600MW Alghat and 500MW Waad Al Shamal wind power projects.

Marubeni is a key player in the developer consortium for Yanbu, reflecting growing international interest in Saudi Arabia’s clean energy initiatives.

Once operational, the wind project is expected to contribute significantly to the Kingdom’s efforts to diversify its energy mix, displace liquid fuels in power generation, and advance its decarbonisation agenda.
