Oman’s Nama PWP seeks consultants for geothermal energy project

Oman targets geothermal development between Fanja and Al Ansab as part of national decarbonisation strategy

Oman’s Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (Nama PWP) has issued a tender inviting bids for techno-economic consultancy services for a geothermal energy project, aligning with the Sultanate’s Vision 2040 and commitment to achieving net-zero emissions.

The consultancy will assess the feasibility of harnessing geothermal energy from hot springs located between Wilayat Fanja and Al Ansab (Wilayat Bousher) in the Muscat Governorate. The move is a major step in diversifying Oman’s energy mix and exploring sustainable energy sources.

Interested parties are required to submit their proposals by May 22, 2025.

The selected consultant will conduct a comprehensive techno-economic analysis, including geological assessments, resource evaluations, and cost-benefit analyses, to determine the viability of geothermal energy development in the specified areas.

Oman’s broader strategy is to expand its renewable energy portfolio, which includes plans for solar and wind projects. The Sultanate aims to meet increasing energy demands while reducing reliance on fossil fuels, in line with its environmental and economic objectives.
