Mitsubishi Power unveils first locally assembled M501JAC gas turbine in Saudi Arabia

The M501JAC will be deployed at the 475-megawatt Amiral Cogeneration Plant in Jubail.

Mitsubishi Power has unveiled its first locally assembled M501JAC gas turbine at its Dammam Assembly Facility in Saudi Arabia.

The achievement is part of its broader localization strategy that underpins the company’s six-decade partnership with the Kingdom.

The M501JAC, one of the world’s most advanced and efficient gas turbines, will be deployed at the 475-megawatt Amiral Cogeneration Plant in Jubail. The plant will supply electricity and steam to the Saudi Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical Company (SATORP) complex and is being developed by Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) and Japan’s JERA Co., Inc.

“This milestone reflects our enduring commitment to Saudi Arabia, enhancing localization, empowering Saudi talent, and delivering our most advanced technologies to support the Kingdom’s energy transition,” said Takao Tsukui, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Power, Ltd. “Our gas turbines assembled here in Dammam will help accelerate economic growth and contribute to achieving Saudi Vision 2030.”

The inauguration ceremony, held in Dammam, was attended by senior Saudi and Japanese officials, including Eastern Province Deputy Governor Prince Saud bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz and Masahiro Tada, Deputy Chief of Mission at Japan’s Embassy in Riyadh.

The event also marked Mitsubishi Power’s 60th anniversary in Saudi Arabia, underscoring its long-standing collaboration with the Kingdom in advancing energy infrastructure and technology transfer.

The Dammam facility, which assembles heavy-duty gas turbines, including the JAC series, plays a key role in supporting the Saudi Green Initiative and national targets for net-zero emissions.

More than half of Mitsubishi Power’s workforce in Saudi Arabia are now Saudi nationals, trained through the company’s Saudi National Program, which provides advanced technical skills and knowledge exchange with experts in Japan.

By localizing the production of high-efficiency turbines, Mitsubishi Power said it is helping the Kingdom strengthen energy self-reliance, expand industrial capabilities, and enable cleaner power generation.

The company continues to work closely with key stakeholders including Saudi Aramco, the Ministry of Energy, Saudi Electricity Company, and the Saline Water Conversion Corporationto support Saudi Arabia’s energy transition and Vision 2030 objectives.
