GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) announced the start of commercial operations at the Jafurah Cogeneration Independent Steam and Power Plant (ISPP) in Saudi Arabia, a major milestone in the Kingdom’s efforts to expand its gas-based energy infrastructure and advance industrial localization under Vision 2030.
The announcement was made on the sidelines of ADIPEC 2025 in Abu Dhabi. The Jafurah ISPP, located around 125 kilometers southeast of Dammam, is set to become one of Saudi Arabia’s most efficient power plants, capable of generating up to 320 megawatts (MW) of electricity and 314 tons per hour of steam to support the Jafurah gas field operations.
GE Vernova provided the plant’s core power equipment, including its 7HA.01 gas turbine, and signed a 20-year service agreement covering maintenance and parts supply. The project’s cogeneration process captures and reuses waste heat to maximize energy efficiency and reduce emissions, in line with the Kingdom’s circular carbon economy goals.
“This project, featuring GE Vernova’s first H-Class gas turbine completed in Saudi Arabia, has contributed to the local economy by creating direct and indirect jobs and expanding domestic manufacturing capabilities,” said Joseph Anis, President and CEO for GE Vernova’s Gas Power business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. “Aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, we are proud the turbine was completed and delivered from GESAT, advancing local industrialization and strengthening the Kingdom’s power sector.”
The 7HA.01 gas turbine was completed at GE Saudi Advanced Turbines (GESAT), making it the first H-Class unit to be assembled locally. Established in 2017, GESAT plays a pivotal role in meeting Saudi Arabia’s growing demand for advanced turbine technology through localized production and assembly. The facility, located within the GE Manufacturing & Technology Center (GEMTEC) campus, produces high-performance F-class and H-class gas turbines and manufactures key post-cast components and accessory modules.
GESAT was previously a joint venture between GE Vernova and Dussur, the investment arm of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. GE Vernova acquired Dussur’s shares in September 2024 to enhance its localization strategy and further develop domestic manufacturing, exports, and technical talent.
Doosan Enerbility, which led the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the plant, said the project underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to expanding its natural gas production capacity as demand for energy continues to grow across industrial and residential sectors. “The development of the Jafurah gas field was a very ambitious project, and as the EPC company, we’re proud to have supported it,” said a representative from Doosan Enerbility.
The Jafurah gas field is one of Saudi Arabia’s largest unconventional gas projects. By 2030, it is expected to produce up to 420 million standard cubic feet of ethane per day and 630,000 barrels of natural gas liquids and condensates, contributing significantly to the country’s self-sufficiency in gas supply.
GE Vernova’s long-standing presence in the Kingdom spans nearly 90 years. Its investments include the Khobar Integration Facility (KIF) for grid solutions and the GEMTEC campus, which houses the MENA Decarbonization Center of Excellence, a Service and Repairs Center for gas turbines, and a Monitoring & Diagnostics Center for remote power asset management.
At ADIPEC 2025, GE Vernova is showcasing technologies that support reliable, affordable, and lower-carbon power generation. Highlights include hydrogen-ready gas turbines, carbon capture and direct air capture (DAC) systems, synchronous condensers, battery energy storage solutions (BESS), and AI-enabled grid automation tools such as GridBeats™ and GridOS® orchestration software.
