Saudi Arabia’s Al Yamamah Steel secures $18.31 million contracts to supply steel wind towers

The first contract is for the Al Ghat Wind Farm, while the second serves the Waad Al Shamal Wind Farm

Al Yamamah Steel Industries Co. has signed two contracts worth a combined SAR 68.66 million ($18.31 million) with China’s SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co. to supply steel wind towers for two major Saudi wind farms .

The first contract, valued at SAR 35.70 million, is for the Al Ghat Wind Farm, while the second, worth SAR 32.96 million, serves the Waad Al Shamal Wind Farm.

Both deals commence in August and span six months, with financial impacts set to be reflected in Q3 2025 earnings.

These projects are part of Round 4 of Saudi Arabia’s push under the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), which delivered record-low wind power tariffs of 1.56 US¢/kWh at Al Ghat and 1.70 US¢/kWh at Waad Al Shamal . This regulatory framework aims for 50% renewables in the Kingdom’s energy mix by 2030.

Al Yamamah Steel, a Riyadh-based steel manufacturer established in 1989, operates its own wind tower factory and expanded capacity with a Yanbu-based plant commissioned in August 2025 to supply local wind projects.

Al Ghat and Waad Al Shamal represent two of Saudi Arabia’s flagship wind IPPs, combining for 1.1 GW capacity and marking the first Japanese-involved wind projects in the Kingdom led by Marubeni in partnership with SPPC and Ajlan & Bros.
