UAE Ministry of Energy partners with Siemens Energy to drive the energy transition

The deal is set to facilitate the exchange of technical expertise between the ministry and Siemens Energy

The MoU was signed by Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, and Khalid bin Hadi, Managing Director of Siemens Energy in the UAE

The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and Siemens Energy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to drive the UAE’s future green and clean energy agenda, marking a key step toward sustainable development and climate action.

The MoU, signed on the sidelines of the World Utilities Congress hosted by TAQA, outlines a strategic collaboration aimed at addressing challenges related to the country’s energy grid infrastructure, enhancing industrial development, and advancing the UAE’s energy transition.

The agreement will also focus on knowledge exchange, technical workshops, and initiatives aimed at strengthening youth skills in clean energy.

The MoU was signed by Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, and Khalid bin Hadi, Managing Director of Siemens Energy in the UAE, during a formal ceremony at the congress.

The agreement is set to facilitate the exchange of technical expertise between the ministry and Siemens Energy, with both entities committing to innovative solutions aimed at bolstering the UAE’s energy infrastructure and ensuring a reliable, future-ready power grid.

“This partnership with Siemens Energy will pave the way for a more sustainable energy sector, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to a clean energy future,” said Al Olama. “Our collaboration is an important step in supporting the country’s energy goals, enhancing sustainable development, and solidifying our position as a global hub for renewable energy solutions.”

One of the core areas of the partnership will be the evaluation of the UAE’s existing grid infrastructure, particularly its capacity to integrate renewable energy sources.

This will involve analysing the hydrogen value chain, including the potential for large-scale hydrogen production, storage, and its role in transforming the country’s energy landscape.

The MoU also seeks to explore the technical aspects of expanding the grid, improving its reliability, and integrating advanced technologies that support the UAE’s vision for a sustainable energy future.

Siemens Energy will provide expertise in cutting-edge solutions, working closely with the Ministry to address these challenges through workshops, brainstorming sessions, and collaborative research with local universities.

“Together with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, we are committed to advancing sustainable energy solutions that will drive the UAE’s energy transition. By aligning our goals, we can help combat climate change while also ensuring the UAE remains at the forefront of global energy innovation,” said Kahlid bin Hadi.

Besides addressing infrastructure and renewable energy integration, the MoU aims to invest in the development of the next generation of energy professionals.

The agreement includes provisions for engaging with local educational institutions, fostering collaboration between industry and academia to promote clean energy solutions.

By developing tailored programs that focus on clean and renewable energy technologies, the partnership seeks to hone the skills of young Emiratis, ensuring they are well-equipped to lead the nation’s future energy transition efforts.

The collaboration comes as the UAE continues to ramp up its efforts toward meeting its ambitious sustainability goals. The country has set clear targets for reducing carbon emissions and increasing the share of renewable energy in its overall energy mix.

The partnership is expected to play a key role in achieving those objectives, with a particular focus on large-scale projects such as hydrogen production and renewable energy integration.

“Our joint efforts with Siemens Energy will contribute significantly to positioning the UAE as a global leader in clean energy solutions. This MoU aligns with our vision of a sustainable economy powered by renewable energy, creating both economic and environmental benefits for future generations,” said Al Olama.

He added that Siemens Energy’s extensive global expertise in sustainable technology solutions will be instrumental in fast-tracking the country’s energy transition and climate change initiatives.

Bin Hadi pointed out that the MoU is the start of a long-term partnership focused on transforming the UAE’s energy sector and ensuring a cleaner, more sustainable future for generations to come.
