Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power partners with L&T on Yanbu Green Hydrogen Project

The deal between ACWA Power and L&T covers the renewables and grid scope of the planned Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub

Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power has signed a memorandum of understanding with India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T) covering the renewables and grid scope of the planned Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub.

The project, located on the Red Sea coast, is designed as a fully integrated facility powered entirely by solar and wind. Its renewables and grid segment will include large-scale solar PV, wind farms, a battery energy storage system, and associated substations and transmission lines.

Under the agreement, L&T’s renewables arm will collaborate with ACWA Power on design and configuration, with the Indian conglomerate expected to move into an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) role once the scope is finalised.

The Yanbu hub is part of Saudi Arabia’s drive to become a major exporter of green hydrogen and ammonia, leveraging low-cost renewables to tap demand from Europe and Asia.

“The rapid pace of development on the Yanbu Green Hydrogen Project is a clear demonstration of our commitment to supporting the Kingdom’s leadership role in the global energy transition,” said Marco Arcelli, ACWA Power’s chief executive.

T. Madhava Das, L&T board member and senior executive vice president, said Saudi Arabia’s renewable expansion was central to global clean energy integration. “The MOU signed with our esteemed customer ACWA is a major milestone in our journey of trusted partnership,” he added.

Saudi Arabia is developing several large hydrogen and ammonia projects, including the flagship $8.4 billion NEOM green hydrogen venture also led by ACWA Power.
