ACCIONA has completed construction and commissioning of the Shuqaiq 4 desalination plant in southwestern Saudi Arabia, adding 400,000 cubic meters per day of potable water supply to the region.
The utility-scale facility, located on the Red Sea coast, will provide drinking water to more than 3.5 million people, supporting efforts to meet the kingdom’s rising demand amid rapid population growth and climate-related pressures.
The project, awarded in 2021 to an ACCIONA–RTCC consortium by the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), uses seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) technology designed for high energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact.
Shuqaiq 4 marks another milestone in ACCIONA’s growing footprint in the Middle East’s water sector. The company is currently building or operating several other key desalination plants in Saudi Arabia, including Al Khobar I and II, Shuqaiq 3, and Jubail 3B, bringing its total treatment capacity in the country to over 2.3 million cubic meters per day—enough to supply more than nine million people.
ACCIONA, which has been carbon neutral since 2016, recorded €19.2 billion in sales in 2024 and operates across more than 40 countries in renewable energy, water treatment, transport, and infrastructure.
